Insights into the generation of hydroxyl radicals from H2O2 decomposition by the combination of Fe2+ and chloranilic acid

Abstract In this work, the degradation of chloranilic acid (CAA) by chemical oxidation with H 2 O alone and in presence ferrous iron Fe 2+ catalyst was investigated order to improve our understanding on novel metal-independent approach. The interesting efficient hydroxyl radicals (OH) production using halogenated quinones has been currently demonstrated. results clearly confirmed formation OH from reaction CAA . slowly decayed followed a pseudo-first kinetics. doses ≥ 1000 mM were required achieve complete decay 1 CAA. However, low total organic carbon (TOC) removal measured accumulation carboxylic acids. addition enhanced kinetics reduced dose High TOC obtained, almost release chloride ions, without decolorization methylene blue (MB) aqueous solutions performed , /CAA, /Fe /CAA/Fe most effective method decolorizing MB due accelerated regeneration. Coupling Fenton reagent seems be promising alternative physical activation water soil treatment.
